14 Nov - Royal Film Performance of ’Casino Royale’; Casino Royale is the 21st official Bond film, starring Daniel Craig as 007 (James Bond). It will be shown at the Empire cinema in Leicester Square, with members of the Royal family attending.
16 Nov - Marylebone High Street Christmas Lights; Bonnie Wright (who plays Ginny Weasley in the Harry Potter films) will be switching on the Marylebone Christmas lights at 5:30pm. The stage will be set up at the intersection of Devonshire Street and Marylebone High Street. Traditional Christmas festivities will include street performers, carols, and Santa’s grotto. 16 Nov - Covent Garden Christmas Lights; At Covent Garden members of the casts of The Lion King and Chicago will perform songs from these musicals, and the lights on a large outdoor Christmas tree will be turned on by a surprise celebrity. The main part of this event is from 5-7pm.

17 Nov - 18 Nov - Gap Year Show, London; An exhibition at ExCel in London (nearest station: Custom House on the DLR; map). This is for people who are thinking of taking time off to travel and/or work (for example: students who want to wait a year before going to university, or people who want to take a career break). 17 Nov - BBC Children In Need, across the UK; An annual event to raise money for British children’s charities. You can get involved in one of many fundraising events in the UK, or you can help by donating money to the charities. There is a special programme on television on BBC1 throughout Friday evening (starting at 7pm).

23 Nov - Bond Street Christmas Lights, London; The 2006 lights will be switched on at 6pm by actress Thandie Newton (see: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0628601) from a stage on New Bond Street. As well as Christmas events in the stores, there is seasonal entertainment on the street between 5pm and 8pm. For details, see: http://www.bondstreetassociation.com.

30 Nov - St Andrew’s Day, Scotland; Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland. He and his brother - Saint Peter - were fishermen who became Apostles of Jesus Christ. He was crucified (killed on a cross) on November 30th in Greece. The cross of Saint Andrew is on the Scottish flag (the Saltire). Scottish celebrations often include traditional food, music, songs, poetry and dance.
