Neolane launches B2B marketing software product

Posted in News on April 30th, 2010

Marketing software company Neolane has launched its first dedicated business-to-business platform, Neolane Leads.
The software combines lead management and ongoing loyalty, cross-sell and up-sell initiatives into a single holistic process.

Stephane Dehoche, CEO of Neolane, said: “Lead management is essential but cannot be considered independently of customer lifetime value optimisation.
“Also, B2B marketing processes must match B2B sales best practices and thus involve a co-ordinated outreach to multiple individuals within a single organisation.”

Features of Neolane Leads include the ability to import external prospect lists, self-service segmentation and counts by non-technical marketers, lead scoring, two-way connectivity with sales force automation systems, and sales and marketing pipeline analytics.

The software is now globally available as in on-premise licensing mode and in software as a service mode.

Etienne Viellard, marketing director EMEA at Neolane, said: “We differentiate ourselves within the market by offering unique services to mature within the marketing pipeline, using direct, cross-channel communications to individuals.”

Cadbury to stage series of mini-Olympic events

Posted in News on April 28th, 2010

Cadbury plans to recruit 2000 ambassadors to stage mini-Olympic Games-style events across the country as part of its sponsorship of London 2012.

The confectionery company has signed a deal with charity Groundwork to run the multimillion-pound, Cadbury Spots V Stripes-themed events.

Universities, village fêtes and sports clubs will be targets for the sporting ambassadors to stage the mini-games, which Cadbury says will ‘provide a rallying cry up to 2012′.

Speaking about Cadbury’s Olympic sponsorship for the first time, Phil Rumbol, the brand’s outgoing marketing director, said: ‘This is all about the ethos of the Olympics. These games can be anything from a five-a-side football competition to people racing to Costa Coffee at work to see who gets the fastest time.’

Groundwork, which is based near Cadbury’s Birmingham headquarters, focuses its activity on disadvantaged communities. It will now prove a crucial partner for Cadbury in its push to promote its association with London 2012.

Cadbury is to tap into the charity’s network of contacts to recruit paid-for and volunteer ambassadors. It is thought that about a dozen of the ambassadors will be paid to work with their volunteer counterparts to set up sporting encounters across the country.

Cadbury, sole provider of ice creams and confectionery at London 2012, will hope the initiative appeases critics alarmed by its tie with the Games in the context of rising childhood obesity and diabetes.

Observers believe the tie-up with Groundwork will be positive, citing Cadbury’s prior charity work and philanthropy via the Cadbury Foundation, which gives about £750,000 a year to socially deprived areas.

Nigel Currie, director of marketing and sponsorship consultancy Brand Rapport, said: ‘The danger for Cadbury is that this type of activity is difficult to measure and you never really get the results. But Cadbury does have a history of making a success of this sort of thing.’

Currie pointed out that it is hard for Olympic sponsors to drum up new marketing ideas and warned that there remains the constant danger of ambush marketing.

Rumbol is leaving Cadbury after four years at the company. The 43-year-old was offered a job at new owner Kraft Foods’ Zurich headquarters, but has  declined the offer.

Kew venues to host classical festival

Posted in News on April 27th, 2010

Kew Music Festival, an outdoor classical music event, is set to take place at venues including Kew Palace, the Musical Museum, and various churches.

Violinist Nicola Benedetti and actress Juliet Stevenson are among the artists who will star at the inaugural festival, which runs from 19-27 June 2010.

Benedetti will be making an appearance alongside cello virtuoso Leonard Elschenbroich and Ukranian pianist Alexei Grynyuk in a private residence on Kew Green. Their programme includes Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 3 and Rachmaninov’s Piano Trio No. 2.

Stevenson, who has starred in films such as ‘Truly Madly Deeply’, will appear alongside actor Alex Jennings and pianist Lucy Parham in their performance of ‘Nocturne’ which is about the romantic life of Chopin.

Other festival highlights include performances by Jools Holland singer Louise Marshall, the String of Pearls Quartet, the Garden Opera Company, Kew Wind Orchestra, Kew Sinfonia and local schools.

The Kew Music Festival has attracted the support of local patrons including double bassist and BBC Radio 3 presenter Chi-chi Nwanoku, writer and photographer Camilla Panufnik, and historian David Blomfield.

“I am confident that these incredible performers will help establish the Kew Music Festival as a major cultural event in the capital,” said Kew Music Festival directors Catherine Bromley and Clare Warren. “It is fitting that an area of such beauty and historical significance as Kew should have its own high calibre music festival.”

WPP highlights investment in digital for future growth

Posted in News on April 26th, 2010

Leaders from WPP Group, parent to Grey, Ogilvy & Mather and MediaCom, explained to City analysts today how it has invested in technology and digital innovations to help drive future growth.

WPP chief executive Sir Martin Sorrell and strategy director Mark Read revealed that more than 40 WPP clients, including global powerhouses Ford and Dell, have licensed ‘live dashboards’ from the group.

The dashboard combines GroupM’s media spend and performance data, and research from Kantar, together with non-proprietary information such as social media content, web analytics and client CRM data.

Read said: “If you think about the direction that marketing is heading, this really is the future and what clients should be looking for.”

He added that WPP was working on a technology partnership with Facebook, called Co-Lab, which will see five key clients benefit from integration between WPP’s ad network 24/7 Real Media, and the Facebook API.

Sorrell remarked that in addition to developing dashboard-style insight software for chief marketing officers, he saw an opportunity in providing services around raw data that would be the preserve of another type of customer, the chief technical officer.

Companies such as IBM, Deloitte and Accenture were also said to be looking at this area, and Sorrell added: “It’s an opportunity, but, like all opportunities, if you don’t look at it, it becomes a threat.”

He also indicated that he expected digital revenues to reach 33% of group revenues by 2014. Last year, digital accounted for 27% of total revenue.

Continuing acquisitions were said to be key to this, as merely transforming existing businesses would add about 1% per year, so would take two years longer.

In answer to an analyst’s question about how much WPP had spent on digital acquisitions over the past 10 years, Sorrell hazarded a “complete guess” of a billion dollars.

Read, who has been WPP’s director of strategy since 2002, is responsible for embedding digital capabilities within all WPP businesses, and is also chief executive of WPP Digital.

He stressed the importance of gathering data and applying digital expertise across all its business areas in advertising, media, PR, insight and direct marketing.

Zavvi agrees sponsorship deal with RugbyRocks

Posted in News on April 22nd, 2010

Zavvi.com has agreed a sponsorship deal with rugby and music festival, RugbyRocks, to become the ‘official music and VIP partner’ of the event.

The start-up festival hosts its first event on 12 June in Richmond, London, where Zavvi.com will take title sponsorship of the main stage. Feeder, Just Jack (DJ), The Parlotones and Alex Gardner are all confirmed for the event, which fuses rugby 7s and music.

The online retailer will also run experiential activity to boost its gaming credentials through a Zavvi.com Gaming Zone, where revellers will have the chance to play the latest games. Those with VIP tickets will also have access to the Zavvi.com After-Party.

RubyRocks hosts the inaugural National 7s Series, which has been tipped for success similar to that enjoyed by Twenty20 cricket. Teams will also include sides from the IRB World Sevens Series and RFU Championship.

Following RugbyRocks, which is being endorsed by England and Harlequins scrumhalf, Danny Care, and Ireland and Ospreys winger, Tommy Bowe, the National 7s Series will travel to Bath, Manchester and Newquay.

Zavvi.com’s deal with RugbyRocks comes as the retailer re-establishes itself in the UK music and gaming market following its acquisition by the Hut Group.

The brand went into administration in December 2008 and its stores were closed by February 2009. The following month, The Hut Group acquired the retailer and relaunched it as an online-only brand.

In February, Zavvi.com launched a sale called Mega Monday, which runs every week, offering up to 80% off the RRP of a selection of best-selling DVDs, CDs and books. The purpose of the ongoing activity is to increase awareness of the brand, and illustrate to consumers that it is a destination for purchasing goods in the entertainment category.

Last week, The Hut Group received £14m from investors partly to fund its expansion plans through acquisitions. The retail group already runs its self-titled site, the hut.com, as well as zavvi.com, and it also plans to launch a standalone site called gifted.com next month.
