Quick Press Release Writing – 7 Basic Tips to Press Release Writing

Posted in News on June 30th, 2010

Press release writing is a very effective advertising and promotional method. You can publish any aspect of your business or latest product launch through press release. There are rules however when writing a press release. You should take note that editors are very strict and choosy when it comes to press releases. The following are 7 basic tips to press release writing:

1. When writing a press release, stick to one subject. It is more effective to feature a single subject rather than peppering your write up with numerous topics.

2. You must remember that press releases are news. Be objective in presenting your article. Don’t use hype words or unnecessary adjectives. Write directly and to the point.

3. Be factual. Your press release must have concrete and verifiable information. You are writing a news story and not an opinion article. Keep your opinions to yourself. Just present the facts.

4. Create an angle for your subject. Effective press releases are those that have a very interesting angle. It should appeal to human concerns. Generalized information should be avoided. Your readers must get hard and specific information.

5. Make sure that you write news worthy articles. Editors are very keen on this. They generally publish press release that will surely pique the interest of the reading public. You must also write up to date press releases. Remember, this is news and it should tackle current events.

6. Keep your lead paragraph below 50 words. It should be very short but can capture the essence of what you’re writing about. Readers usually scan a page. If you can catch their attention, then your press release is effective.

7. You must include addresses and telephone numbers of contact persons who released the news. In this way online or offline editors can communicate with you if they have specific questions regarding your release.

‘Greening’ your message: PR for life

Posted in News on June 30th, 2010

As we constantly discuss and engage with Public Relations industry professionals, we are seeing more and more clients are concerned with expressing their ‘green credentials’. The PR agencies are recognising the need to consider ‘Green PR’ as a core part of their offer to clients.

The climate change debate is heating up and no longer is sustainability the stuff of tree huggers. Consumers are highly aware of environmental and social responsibility issues and will vote with their feet if they feel a product or service is not in line with their new greener values. A nine-country survey by environmental brand consultancy GoodPurpose found 85% of consumers are willing to change their habits to make tomorrow’s world a better place, and over half (55%) would give positive word of mouth to a product if a good cause were behind it. The study also found when choosing between two brands of same quality and price, social purpose affected consumers’ decision the most (41%), ahead of design and innovation (32%) and the loyalty to the brand (26%).

We have seen this consumer awareness develop not only through increased access to information over the internet but also higher levels of media attention about green issues. The current BP disaster is a classic case in point and serves to remind us all of the potential damage big business can inflict on the planet. Further to this there has been an explosion in the number of ‘Michael Moore’ style documentaries relating to all things social and sustainable. From sweatshops in the Third World, through to tackling global warming issues in films like the Inconvenient Truth, ‘green’ is very much on the public – and consumer – agenda.

Green PR is a new subfield of Public Relations which has emerged in response to the above issues. PR agencies are working closely with their clients to ensure sustainability and socially responsible messages are getting out to their various publics. Telling a good green story has become an essential component of the PR offer. The green issue is not going to go away anytime soon and the Public Relations industry is proactively embracing the change to spread the word on behalf of its clients.

Posted in Events on June 28th, 2010

Fundraising initiative Party for the Podium is on the hunt for event organisers across the UK to create a series of events in support for the nation’s Olympic and Paralympic medal hopefuls.

The charitable cause is already working with regional 2012 Groups on putting the finishing touches to a national tour of one-off parties, complete with live music and virtual Olympic activities, but is keen to develop links with event organisers to explore ways in which the format can be licensed.
The inaugural Party for the Podium took place on Bristol’s Harbourside on 20 May and saw gold medal rower Zac Purchase, and fellow Beijing medallist, windsurfer Bryony Shaw, take part in a unique medal ceremony of their own.

All funds raised from the events will go to individual athletes and the hosts’ choice of sporting good causes.

Media 10 to inaugurate Britain’s Next Top Model Live

Posted in Events on June 25th, 2010

Agency Media 10 has won the rights to produce the first Britain’s Next Top Model Live event in London this October.

Based on the hugely successful reality TV show, the three-day event will take place at Excel London from 22-24 October and will bring to life the style and glamour of the show through fashion shows, exhibitions and entertainment.
Excel will be transformed into a high street, complete with a 3,000-seat catwalk experience and dedicated Britain’s Next Top Model Powder Room.
Visitors will be able to get advice from a host of celebrity guest speakers, stylists and personal shoppers, and get up close to the show’s contestants, both past and present.

Budding young models will also be given the opportunity to experience their moment in the spotlight, strutting their stuff on the Open Catwalk.
“We are thrilled to be able to launch Britain’s Next Top Model Live into the consumer sector. The popularity of the Living TV show Britain’s Next Top Model, combined with increased consumer spending online and on the high street, means there has never been a better time for Media 10 to launch a fashion and beauty event,” said Media 10 managing director Lee Newton.

Living TV owner Virgin Media Television will be one of the main supporters of the event, with a promotional campaign running alongside series six of Britain’s Next Top Model.
“We asked Media 10 to produce the event, based on the insight into the brand and very high professional standards they demonstrated. Their understanding of the entertaining content, glamour, gloss and audience participation that this event requires made them the first choice for us,” said Virgin Media Television commercial director David Cuff.

Pearce Hire supplies site power for Forestry Commission’s 2010 Live Music Tour

Posted in Events on June 24th, 2010

Pearce Hire is providing site power and stage lighting for the Forestry Commission’s 2010 Live Music Tour, which kicked off on 11 June and runs until 18 July.

The lighting and audio specialist is trying to reduce the tour’s carbon footprint by halving the power consumption, using i-pix BB4 LED Washlights.

One consideration when designing for these shows, according to Pearce Hire project manager John Huson, is that the vast majority of the event takes place in daylight, only getting dark towards the very end.
“Using a high-output LED source not only provides the punch required for a daylight show, but also provides some ‘eye candy’ in the rig, and we’ve designed a truss layout to maximise this,” said Huson.

The 22-show tour features performances from a range of artistes, including Keane, Simply Red, JLS, The Saturdays and Blondie.

It is visiting forest locations such as Cannock Birches Forest in Stafford and Dalby Forest in Yorkshire.
